The twirling center of Swimming Stars is colored and stamped concrete set with glass stars depicting the Great Whale constellation. Surrounding the watery night sky is a colored and stamped concrete beach littered with mosaic marine protozoa caught in nets. A life-like cast bronze octopus, sea stars and shells cling to the side of the rock. Seasonally the Great Whale can be viewed simultaneously with the same heavenly constellation above.
