Art making is my life's practice.

My years as a sculptor, park designer and public artist have lent a unique influence to my work as a painter. These sculptural works were a joy to create and brought recognition through interviews, articles and publication in 11 books. The switch from creating art with heavy equipment to utilizing the ancient tools of brushes and mark makers was exciting.

Now I create with acrylic paint and collaged painted papers. Sometimes fabric from meaningful articles of clothing is included. I enjoy painting what I cannot see.  By letting go of identifiable images, another way to perceive the world is revealed.

I am driven by the freedom of the evolving process that abstract painting allows. Painting in abstract creates psychic distance and makes room for veiled impressions to surface, which leads me to learn something new about myself or the world.

This is a form of magical communication. We can all speak the universal and ancient language that is Art.

 

I invite the viewer to share this feeling of discovery and conjure their own personal associations with my paintings.
